Our history
30
years of experienceBridge Civil Engineering Ltd has continued to expand its experience across highways and urban regeneration, structures, water and sewerage, rivers and coastal works, geotechnical engineering and power infrastructure. This enables the company to deliver complex projects using its own skilled workforce, with a consistent focus on safety, quality and programme certainty.
Following a period of significant growth in 2024, the company took a deliberate approach to consolidation and stability during 2025, strengthening its systems, people and processes to support sustainable long-term performance.
Investment in financial, operational and IT systems has improved efficiency, resilience and cybersecurity. The company holds Future Net Zero Standard – Gold Certification and continues to develop its understanding of its carbon footprint.
Founded in 1996 by Ken Evans as Rochelle Civil Engineering Ltd, the business began as a small civil engineering contractor serving the South West. In 2000, the company was renamed Bridge Civil Engineering Ltd, marking the start of a new chapter delivering infrastructure solutions for both public and private sector clients.
In January 2004, Dave Ellis joined Bridge as Contracts Manager, working alongside Ken Evans to drive the business forward. During this period, the company established its first rented office in Totnes and introduced a new logo, creating the visual identity that remains synonymous with Bridge today. In January 2005, Dave became Managing Director, bringing a fresh, ambitious vision for growth while continuing to uphold Ken's core values of high standards, integrity, and a strong commitment to looking after our people.
As Bridge continued to grow, larger premises were needed, leading to a move to St Pauls Road, Newton Abbot. The property was leased to accommodate the expanding team and operations.
As civil engineers, we were fascinated to discover that the building had a remarkable heritage. During the 1840s, it served as the drawing offices of Isambard Kingdom Brunel during the expansion of the Great Western Railway and the South Devon Railway, giving Bridge a unique connection to one of Britain's greatest engineering pioneers.
As Bridge continued to grow, with office staff numbers reaching 10, the decision was made to purchase our own premises and relocate to Silverton House on the outskirts of Chudleigh. Owning our building provided the space needed for the expanding business and enabled us to maintain our own operational yard at the rear of the site.
In 2022, we refined our distinctive “B” logo, incorporating the company name and a green tick to formally represent our motto, “The Bridge Way”. The symbol reflects our commitment to quality, doing things the right way, and delivering projects to the high standards our clients expect.
With the company growing to over 65 employees, Bridge took the next major step in its journey by purchasing a significantly larger headquarters just 200 metres from Silverton House. The new facility, named the Bridge Innovation Centre, provides the space and infrastructure needed to support the next phase of the company's growth.
The site includes a four-acre field, creating exciting opportunities for the future. Plans include the development of a large operational yard, a new car park with capacity for 120 vehicles, and the establishment of a dedicated Civil Groundworks College to help train and inspire the next generation of industry professionals.
A new chapter in Chudleigh
In July 2025, the company relocated to larger premises at the Bridge Innovation Centre, Chudleigh, providing increased capacity to support future growth.
Today, Bridge Civil Engineering Ltd builds on 30 years of experience, combining skilled people, strong systems and a practical approach to deliver dependable civil engineering solutions for the communities it serves.
